Scarred Winds [Work In Progress]

Hey, this is Scarred Winds – something I'm building.

It's kind of a dark fantasy RPG idea where you catch creatures, but I'm trying something different. Instead of levels, I came up with this Veteran System. The whole point is that creatures change based on what they go through – battles, getting hurt, that kind of stuff. You won't see HP bars, just text describing how they're doing. Injuries stick around, which is maybe a bit harsh, but feels right for the vibe.

The Story Idea:

It's set in this really grim village in a world without sun where they exile people to save food. You're an orphan who gets kicked out, beaten up, and left in this cave. You wake up messed up (lost an eye, broken leg) next to the last guy they exiled, find his old Pokéball, and some creature breaks out right before you pass out again. It's meant to be pretty dark, inspired by things like Berserk.

(Note: Using placeholder Pokémon art for now, planning to make my own creatures later!)

What's Actually Working Right Now:

  • The basic code for the Veteran System is mostly there.
  • The opening story sequence is playable up to finding the Pokéball.
  • A bunch of the UI is surprisingly functional and interactive:
    • You can light the candle on the start screen with the mouse.
    • The title text actually burns where your cursor touches it (uses a heat simulation!). It even saves the burnt state between menus.
    • Buttons glow and shoot particles, scene transitions burn across the screen, and the background embers move when you wave the mouse over them. Spent way too long getting that feeling right.

It's still very much a concept in progress. Lots left to build, including the actual creatures and finishing the story.

This page is just to share what I've got so far. Let me know what you think!
